 Dulcimerhead

New! released: November 1st 2007

Revealed Structure - music for meditation and healing

Revealed Structure -music for meditation and healing. This CD was created in response to numerous requests for a long playing ( at least 60 minutes) musical piece that could be used in alternative healing ( Reiki, Shaitsu, Massage Therapy, etc) sessions.

Revealed Structure is a gentle sonic journey that takes the listener through a process of approach to self, healing and increased self awareness. Recorded in October 2007,all 7 tracks ( in a continuous flow 61 minute arrangement) were  created  in a spontaneous "off the floor" manner. Keyboards and Dulcimer take front position with various bells, chimes and bowls backing up.

the second CD by Dulcimerhead - Gnosis ( Arathusa Records- arcd-03)

 for song samples- click here

Gnosis means: "an inner knowing". We all possess a vast amount of intuitive knowledge, wisdom and creativity. New skills and wisdom are less about something we learn and more about something we remember . We have all our own answers and we can act as our own shamans - venturing into unknown realms and bringing back into the visible that which was hidden yet not lost.

This CD represents a time of growth - a journey inwards to that "ancient lake" of the unconscious mind, a calling forth of new life and hope. Many of these tunes appeared spontaneously and were captured in one or two takes. Many of them seem to be about reclaiming sacred spaces- whether it be the reclaiming of a cathedral sanctuary for a fertility dance (Planting is Done and Song for Cailleach) or a reconnection to the cycles of Nature ( May Day, Cedar Grove and Water). Some of these tunes are about re-claiming sacred inner spaces (Slice of Blue and The Return of Ullalume) and some are about the process (often painful) of getting there (Circles and Song of the Sun). In the end they are all about those "cathedrals within and without" - of sky and tree and water, of heart and moon and sun - being in them, returning to them and exploring them.

Strangely enough, most of these tunes are played in the key of E - the note which, to me, represents the sound of the Universe - the God Note and the colour blue.

Enjoy!

Dulcimerhead's first CD release ( All That Is - on Arathusa Records-  February 2007) has a lush and layered sound, centred around the Mountain dulcimer of Dave Rankine and also various keyboards. Less rhythm based than the East by West project,. All That Is takes the listener into that mythic world of the Bardic story teller - a world outside of time and space - a world of pure emotive expression.

This CD release is a EP ( extended play) 22 minute suite composed of 10 movements that run one into the next.

Price: $ 12      To order email Dave at godwind@bmts.com

June 25th

What an amazing month - 6 concerts since June 1st plus another appearance on Rogers "Daytime" - June 8th where we performed the ballad  " Try".

Each event had its own magic and it was all topped off by a great concert on June 16 - the " Teacups and Saucers Full of Joy". What a great evening - over two hours of music and then a audience participation section in which we all made up new songs- no one wanted to leave.

This concert was in support of the York Region Food Network and thanks to all who came and made donations to this  worthy cause.

Special thanks to Liz , Laura, Elliot. Pippa and Judy for their help in promoting and facilitating the event

and

special thanks to Kate Early and Fernando Villalobos for joining us on stage and laying down some great grooves with us.

and thanks to everyone who sat and listened and danced and entered the " zone"  with us.

April 16th

Dulcimerhead appeared on Rogers Cable " Daytime" ( 3 broadcasts).  One song  (Circles) was performed live and the band was interviewed. Afterwards Dave played in the background as another guest - Tara Mae Hillyer led a demonstration of transformative art techniques.

The live performance was met with a wave of applause by the floor crew. A good time was had by all.

Two days booked in June now please see coming events for information. Come join Dulcimerhead for tea and tunes.

CD release:   East By West  TRANCEMHOR  august 2006

Totally fresh!-  Trancemhor is an exciting collection of spontaneous "off the floor" recordings - rhythmic creations built upon a loose matrix of simple melody lines - no two ever the same.

East By West is the project name for the duo of Billy Fairley  (percussion) and David Rankine ( Mountain Dulcimer)

This CD release is imbued with sounds of an Indo-Persian flavour with all the dynamics of rock. Each unique track on this release contains exquisite melody lines combined with driving beats and relentless circular rhythms. Additional instrumentation provided by Eugene Rea. Engineered by Eugene Rea.

Recorded at Rea Studio,  ( www.reastudios.com)

East by West's   Trancemhor

The CD title:

Mhor Is Scottish Gaelic for Big - TranceMHOR = Big Trance, a name which reflects the trance like sounds, melodies and rhythms and also their shared Scottish heritage.
