Liquid Soul

Liquid Soul is Luteface's brush with Psychedelia. Many critics thought it  an odd choice at the time as the days of Psychedelia were already long gone but this offering mirrored the sounds coming from across the Atlantic  such as the trippy   "space rock" of Hawkwind and the ambient prog of Tangerine Dream.

Many fans of Radiohead can hear the influence of this Luteface album on Thom Yorke's vocals.  Liquid Soul is distinct in that Pi Valois took up vocals on three of the tracks, although he would never perform them live.

Oddly enough, it was material from this album that was performed live when Luteface opened for the Stampeders on three occasions in Simcoe County. A strange combination indeed, but we are used to strange combinations , machinations and violence when looking back at this band.

Mrs. Nowicki and Me

This album (their third) was Luteface's sonic journey back to their childhood roots. This recording gave us several great hits - " OK Butterchurn" and "Head Hitting Blues" and the lovely " Ice Cream and Sympathy".  (1977)

Here is a review from the Tokyo Free Times (Dec 1977) - written after the boys played the Budokan... the night BEFORE Cheap Trick did.

"The semester "sturdy art" comes to humour when
experiencing the 11 tracks of Nowicki Mama-San. Each footprints is
a perfect be disturbed of music in itself, but there is no delay
between them. One is connected to the other in a 58-two shakes of a
lamb's tail log unending execute on regular bitch waves - frenzied,
pacified, rolling, crashing, orderly, indulgent, challenging, still.
It is an unpredictable galavant of idea"

I know- something is lost in translation, but it still captures the excitement of this album.

Huron County Conspiracy

Often referred to but never discussed, is Luteface's sojourn in Huron County, playing   harvest festivals and fall fairs. The hit " No Injury, No Blame " is on this album. (1976)

Up to Our  Necks in Water

This release was Luteface's fourth and reflects a time in their career when they could not find tour sponsorship until Bachman Motors donated an used van. Old tents and camp cots became their "home away from home" for a tour through the Western Provinces that would have made Led Zeppelin quake in fear.

It is noted that road food was supplied by the above mentioned Mrs. Nowicki - owner/operator of Nowicki's IGA in Mergus ON  (1978)

Two Heads are Better Than One

Any fan of Luteface will know what the title of this recording refers to - or WHO it refers to. The Larnaski twins of course- holding down the rhythm side of this ground-breaking band. Their freshman LP release brought us the glorious " My Heart is in Dufferin County" and  "Mulmur Madrigal".

Centennial

The Album that never was, Centennial was being recorded when Luteface broke up. Once again, Luteface had dipped back into childhood memories for inspiration.

After much negotiating the intended album artwork has been released for this website. Note the typo- this was a rough version.  The Illustration is from Calypso's Grade 2 composition book and is dated March 19, 1967. Many fans have speculated as to the significance of this date and have sited  it as the genesis of Calypso' brilliant madness.
