The Iona monks who produced the Book of Kells ( 8th century CE) followed a style of Christian observance adopted from the Egyptian Coptic Christian Church. Indeed, many of the Bibles these same monks copied from were from the Eastern Mediteranean world...East meets West.
From Iona spread a unique Christian belief system which held that all of nature (seen, unseen, animate and inanimate) was the creation of God and therefore all are sacred.
